MCLAREN DALLAS UNVEILS $1.7 MILLION ELVA ROADSTER
The first soiree under the new Avondale Group brand formed by Ken Schnitzer (founder of Park Place MotorCars), guests sipped McLaren Milagro Ranch Water cocktails and savored Ultimate Series bites while experiencing the futuristic supercar.
The McLaren Elva is constructed entirely of carbon fiber with very few body panels. Every square inch of the car incorporates F-1 inspired aero-technology. Powered by a mid-engine, 4-liter, twin-turbo V8, the Elva delivers 804-hp and 590 lb.-ft of torque. Linked with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, the Elva will launch its occupants from 0-to-62 mph in under three seconds…124 mph in 6.7 seconds.
Rooted in the open-air sports cars designed by Bruce McLaren in the 1960s, the modern Elva is an engineering masterpiece,” said Heath Strayhan, General Manager of Premier Collection. “The Elva has no windshield, roof or windows, connecting the driver to the road in a bold fashion. McLaren’s unique Active Air Management System channels high speed air through the cars bonnet, up and over the cabin, creating a bubble that keeps passengers comfortable even at speeds up to 70 miles-per-hour.”
McLaren will produce a limited 149 Elva’s globally, with approximate 30 expected to be delivered in the U.S. McLaren Dallas has already taken orders for several of the ultra-lightweight roadsters, so you’ll never know what to expect tooling around in the Metroplex. The Elva is so exclusive that pricing begins at $1.7m.
Even if you're among the excessively rich who can afford the Elva's seven-figure price. Those who are lucky enough to acquire one can then proceed to customize it through the company's MSO Division. The most sensational of these bespoke options include a 24-karat-gold heat shield for the engine compartment.
Its unconventional design can easily distract from the Elva's remarkable performance credentials. This includes its twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 that produces 804 horsepower and 590 lb.-ft of torque. The engine hooks up to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that powers the rear wheels. For added context, that latter number makes the Elva quicker than the track-focused Senna. The Elva also is reported to be the company's lightest road car ever, but likely not lighter than icons such as the McLaren F1.
